In trying to get up to speed on developing NB platform apps after a
break of many years, it looks to me like the tutorials are in a pretty
sad state. All are marked with "Need Review", but from the 3 or 4 I've
tried, really they need a thorough rewrite - several simply don't
build/compile in the first place. (Some of the problem with this appears
to be a bug in the `nbm-maven-plugin` and/or its dependencies. My
Maven-fu is not enough to debug it.)
This is not good for encouraging/supporting platform adoption, of
course. Everything in the learning materials seems to refer prospective
platform devs to the "NetBeans Platform for Beginners" book, now >6
years old, so I wonder how well it is sync'd with the current state of
platform APIs... (I can't afford to buy the book, so a moot point
anyway, in my case.)
Who is doing any work on reviewing/updating the tutorials? Anyone? Is
this considered important/worthwhile?
I'm willing to get involved in reviews/rewrites of the tutorial
material. (I taught Java and design/architecture courses for about 15
years, so I have a good background in presenting/structuring learning
materials.) Frankly the entire tutorial set needs a comprehensive
overhaul, but that's a larger scope project than I can commit to at this
stage. Let's start with just one tutorial or so...
Any guidance/ideas in this, especially contact with any people
*currently* working on tutorials and teaching materials, will be most
welcome!
