Yes, Jan has made tremendous progress since JDK11 to make the latest - e.g. 
JDK17's - javac usable for IDE purposes.

Cons:
- manual conversion increases likeahood of bugs => not 100% compatible JDK's 
javac
- always released late => NetBeans hasn't been the 1st IDE to support new Java 
language features for many releases

Pros:
- Minimal. JDK17 has 99% of them.
