I did quite some cleanup in "Building on Linux". However, I noted
that there are
large parts in it that are platform-independant. I am suggesting to
add a
section "Building" before the "Building on ..." sections and
consolidating all
platform-independant stuff there. Of "Building on Linux" will not be
much left
(dito for Solaris), because the software/hardware requirements (and
special
stuff like debugging) are pretty much the only things that are
platform-specific.
With our current structure you can if you want add platform-dependent
notes in that content if you wish. If you would move this to a second
article I think it would add several levels of complexity, with a
risk of having to create more references and notes between the articles.
I think we actually should go for keeping them in each article.

If the content is similar for multiple building target platforms, why
not extract it into a subpage, that then gets included just like the
way you would include/use templates? In order to be able to edit the
content of the other page, I would presume that you add a link to that
page in the content itself.
Otherwise, great job, it will help a lot.
Christian had a good point regarding simple instructions previously.
As you mentioned, the instructions are similar. There are big
possibilities that we want to add platform-specific notes, comments,
references to other documentation (e.g. the Solaris documentation) that
is platform-specific later, letting the content remain today would give
us most options available, which I think is a strong benefit.
