There are some ideas around but I'm still missing a tool that can graphically show the diffs on an area/changelist.

Let's start with geometry modifications.

Typical situation: I look at the map in my area and I could bet there was a road at a specific point. Now I want to know: Was there a road in the past?

I want to open my history-browser, select the area of interest and then tick a check-box to view all deleted nodes, roads (within a defined timeframe, maybe a slider).

If I identify a changeset which did delete that way I want to know what else that changeset did. So I want to have it display the state of the map before the edit and the geometry changes of that changeset in a different colorset.

To make it even more convenient intelligent filters can remove changes from the display where for example a node was deleted but in the same position is an area which has the tags as well. This should filter conversion of POI nodes into POI areas.

Deleted roads could be filtered if the road network contains a new road connecting the end-nodes so no gap was created. This is a more complex filter as it could be multiple edits involved.

So I want a tool that makes it possible to do a quality control by checking diffs like it's possible in wikipedia for years. The problem is that our data is a lot harder to diff.
