Wow, what a difference a picture make in explaining what's going on!

Well, you used the word "point" 3 times above. How about "visual extension point", or "GUI plugin point", or some combination of similar words?

If you are someone writing a parcel, then the role that this block plays is indeed an extension point or plugin point for the tree of blocks that you create for your detail view.

Pardon the terrible ascii art here, but it helps me to have a picture:

      *
      |
   ----------
   |        |
   *        * <-- TrunkParentBlock
  ----
  |  |
  *  *

            * <-- Trunk block of "tree of blocks"
            |
          ----
          |  |
          *  *

I think using the word "root" for TrunkParentBlock is a bit confusing, because the Trunk itself is the root of the tree of blocks.

Not sure these are any better, but what about:

TreeHook
TreeExtensionPoint
PlantationPoint (get it, "plant" the tree here!)
ExtensionBlock

or back to John's:
TreeSocket
SocketBlock

Cheers,
Katie
