Hi Drew,
this is OK. Thorsten Ziehm is working on this.
Here's the proposal that has been discussed and which has been
accepted by the release status meeting members today:

Yes I have did read that and saw the comments from todays Release meeting.
I've been meaning to get a couple comments to the list regarding it -
but alas have again procrastinated much too long. (actually started but
a draft unsent is no better then not starting is it)
My cribb notes version:
The current process should be followed - meaning the step of checking
and closing per issue.
The reality on the ground is that clearing the backlog is not likely to
happen, short of doing it this way.
Setting this as policy for moving forward is IMO not the best outcome.
That said - it isn't much help to just say 'Stick with the process' and
ignore realities of staffing and time - and this has been my delay,
trying to come up with some reasonable ideas to put on the table.
The process isn't changed in general. ;-) The owner or someone else will
have still the possibility to recheck the fixed issue in the Master
build and close it. The issue will stay in state 'fixed/verified' longer
than half a year. When in this time-frame nobody found the time for
recheck, I don't think that this will be done ever. That was and is the
reality, as you wrote.
Beside this, we do not change the situation for the product. The risk is
still the same if the issues are still opened or closed automatically.
But the burden to check the mass of issues by the QA project is gone. In
my opinion this is and will be the benefit.
Thorsten
