I started a discussion with infra ( discussion not yet archived, but should be available at [1] later). I was pointed to https://reporeq.apache.org/ , which is a git repository self-serve tool ( PMC members only ). We can use that tool to automatically provision git repos, without any infra intervention. This means that we are not blocked at all from an infrastructure point of view when migrating to git.
