I actually think that should be a hard requirement for the "next" API
... if v2 is so different and awkward compared to a broadly adopted
standard, I'd say that's a short-coming of the v2 design. If we're
going to keep rolling out APIs that no standardized tooling supports,
just stick with v1, our users are no better off.
