If all goes to plan, the current apache/tomcat git repo would look like
this:

It won't be a fork so the UI behaviour will be slightly different but
that should be enough to give you the idea.

The good news is that I can run though this process in less than an hour
so if:
- we are happy with this; and
- we are happy with the issues and proposed solutions; and
- we agree to migrate to git

it can happen pretty quickly and minimal impact / downtime for development.
