Hi all, thanks for the thoughts. Here is my _personal_ view:
I was inclined to start this discussion as user's are asking on [email protected], stackoverflow and social media, what they can expect regarding EOL dates for TomEE 1.7.x / 7.0.x / 7.1.x - we did not release a maintainance or security update in > 1 year. I agree with Alex, that we can expect to maintain 8.0.x for a long period of time as javax.* while still be around some years. In addition, I am inline with the view of JL. I would also expect to mark 1.7.x as eol asap, then do the same with 7.0.x / 7.1.x a few months later (maybe by doing a last release with updated libs / tomcat). I am also fine with switching 8.0.x to maintainance and go for EE9 on the master branch. I think, that we should start the way towards EE9 (rename, test, tag it) and then we are ready to work on EE10 ;) Hope, that other people will jump into this discussion :) Gruß Richard Am Mittwoch, dem 12.01.2022 um 18:50 +0100 schrieb Jean-Louis Monteiro: > Thanks Alex for the feedback. > > Just to clarify, this is _my_ view and not community decision or > thoughts. > > I am fully aware of javax namespace change and the value to keep > maintaining TomEE 8.x longer > By the way, I did _not_ propose to move TomEE 8.x to EOL. > > I said, move TomEE 8.x to maintenance, so we can use master for TomEE > 9.x > with a target EE 9. > > > -- > Jean-Louis Monteiro > http://twitter.com/jlouismonteiro > http://www.tomitribe.com > > > On Tue, Jan 11, 2022 at 10:37 PM Alex The Rocker < > [email protected]> > wrote: > > > Hello all, > > > > I'm afraid it'll be necessary to keep TomEE 8.x maintained for a > > long > > while, as it's the last version supporting javax namespace for EE > > APIs. > > Like it or not, but migration from javax to jakarta namespace is a > > very slow process for applications developed a while ago... > > > > Kind regards, > > Alex > > > > Le mar. 11 janv. 2022 à 08:24, Jean-Louis Monteiro > > <[email protected]> a écrit : > > > We need a proper discussion and agreement on the mailing list > > > > > > I'd be in favor of having 1.7.x EOL > > > 7.x should also somehow turn EOL soon > > > 8.x will be maintenance only so we can turn master to 9.x > > > We have EE10 around the corner so we need to move on or we'll > > > have 5 > > > versions to maintain in parallel which isn't really easy > > > > > > Le mar. 11 janv. 2022 à 07:29, Zowalla, Richard < > > > [email protected]> a écrit : > > > > > > > Any thoughts on this one? > > > > > > > > Am Donnerstag, dem 09.12.2021 um 10:49 +0000 schrieb Zowalla, > > > > Richard: > > > > > Hi all, > > > > > > > > > > I found the attached mail, which was sent to [email protected] > > > > > > > > > > In the past, there was some discussion about versioning and > > > > > EOL of > > > > > older versions of TomEE in various mail threads (but no > > > > > consens was > > > > > found nor a descision was made). > > > > > > > > > > I think, that we are not really clear on our website until > > > > > when we > > > > > want > > > > > to maintain / patch older TomEE versions.
