It's a bit confusing for the user, that we have a language-list frame
further down the left-hand side, but we also have some language-links
listed in the template frame on the RHS, which is much more obvious. Do
we need to remove the language-links from the RHS template?
If I had a choice, we would only use one language link- My preference
is the InterWiki links (the list of languages on the lower left). If we
use this style throughout the OOoWiki, it becomes "normal". It is also
the standard L10N linking method used in well known Wikis such as
Wikipedia, so the format should... in theory... be a known one.
I modified the Main Page to remove the redundant language links, and it
would be good if the other redundant language links could also be
reduced or removed... such as this case with the Extensions template
(the one on the right hand side).
By the way, you can localize the Wiki page titles (while still keeping
the common English URLs) with the DISPLAYTITLE syntax:
{{DISPLAYTITLE:Your L10N title}}
Yes, I'd wondered about that, because I've translated other wikipages
into Vietnamese, and I have a nasty feeling that the links are in
different formats, based on what other languages did for each page. I
would like to clean all those up, and I agree with you that we need to
talk about this on the NLC list.
As more and more people start using the OOoWiki, we really need to start
thinking about adding a little structure... but without restricting the
free form of a Wiki.
Using ISO codes for languages (since this wiki does not use namespaces,
and it's a bit late to implement that now) is a great start... but as
usual with good and bad points. I'll try to put together an initial
proposal to the L10N group, with some ideas and the impact as I have
observed. We can discuss it and hopefully find a solution that helps
give a little sanity to the Wiki.
