Hello,
Your site failed to say Windows 98 wasn't supported. I downloaded
OOv3.1, and it failed to install. But it never told me that it won't
work with Windows 98, it just says it'll try. Then it dies because the
Java isn't up to date, but I'm running the latest version available for
Windows 98. It wasn't until I extensively looked around on your site
that OOv3.x was not supported on Windows 98 and wouldn't work. Why don't
you tell people this up front like "Works with Windows 2000 and
above..." statement?

Also, I have not been able to find any OOv2.x version. Where did all the
download versions go? Where's your ftp site? Not listed as well.

Some support you're giving to older people, and older systems.

let me try to do what the user might have been done:

- go to www.openoffice.org
- recognized that he can download something via
  "download.openoffice.org"
- opened this website
- downloaded a build without to look first if it fits to his
  hardware/software environment
- complaining about this after download/install

But we have the link "System Requirements" directly on the download website in the links collection on the right. So, no need to do an extensively search.

Finally I don't know if there is really any action that should we take. IMHO all information is available to decide if the bits are fitting to the user's system before starting the download or installation.

Maybe we can update the system reqs website to make it more clearer that Windows 2000 is the oldest supported system. But that's all I can see.

While i agree with you, maybe putting this under "Windows" on the download button? Just to help unsure users a bit more...

The text "except Linux Deb and Mac users" maybe can be replaced with this for Windows users as the current text is more interesting for Linux Deb and Mac users?
