Yeah, I've recently switched an old Atom A330[0] based system[1] with 2 GB of RAM (that's the maximum it supports) from a 32-bit to a 64-bit based distro (after finding out it can actually run 64-bit code). It has been running just fine and actually feels a bit faster now.
