Hello, Pantheon relies heavily on Gnome, so installing Gnome Session in a Pantheon desktop makes sense. About the DM, not sure. LightDM is not Pantheon DM, because Pantheon doesn't have a DM of its own AFAIK. I'm guessing, because I don't use Pantheon, that what happens is that when Pantheon is marked to install there is no DM marked to be installed with it, and hence the problem when you delete everything else. Now a question: you get a TTY. Can you login via TTY and start a graphic session?
