I just wanted to note, since I haven't noticed it elsewhere in this thread, that "deprecation" for a Fedora package has a specific meaning as described in https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/deprecating-packages/ When a package is deprecated, the intent is that no new dependencies on any deprecated package would appear in the distribution, either by new packages or from existing packages adding dependencies.
