I have found another explanation which makes more sense. Maybe your
Administrator has blocked MAPI connections and require you to use either
RPC over HTTPS or OWA.

If you have an Outlook client running, try to create a new profile using
default authentication (no rpc over https etc.). If Outlook refuses to
launch/work, then openchangeclient won't do the trick either. If Outlook
does work, then I'll probably be able to figure out the issue you face
and fix whatever is necessary.
