Well, could we agree on a required autotool version set first? I have no
problem with a well specified version set, even if I think that we
should always use the latest releases, which are:

- autoconf 2.61
- automake 1.10
- libtool 1.5.22

Any other fairly recent version would do it as well, but we should
specify it for now. It is easy for maintainers to use the "right"
versions, and we could even code it into the autogen scripts so nobody
has to do something manually.

Well, it happens because you didn't add the full patch series. Once you
do it right, it just works :-) So let's find out the reasons why you
rejected some of the patches and I'm pretty sure that these things will
work again.

I have already reworked the patch series and I'll repost them when I've
added some documentation headers to it.
