I thought a "DB" was already up, is it? We should offer a live service to "harvest" or contribute such data more easily than right now. Whether it is a DB or flat XML files, don't care, but files could be hard to maintain.
Didn't you see the link earlier, there most devices contain a giant list of up to 4000 unique (assuming so, else it would be a flaw in their system;-) UA strings per device. Some have less, maybe a few hundred, but very few seem to have just ONE single UA string per unique device like "Nokia Lumia 630" etc. So parsing and identifying key elements is vital, some additional info like "J2ME", "CLDC 1.1" or "ARM" for chipset do not seem to be in all of these strings, so some contain more details, others just a bare minimum...
