Jon,

 I'm curious,a nd will give you a hand if I can. It would really help to see a 
couple of the log files. These can be found in /var/log, and the two that are 
of most interest are "messages" and "dmesg". If they aren't huge maybe you can 
attach them, or include them in the body of an email.
