Mark,

Which RPM did you use from the htdig site?  I did not
try installing the glic21 RPM on 4.1.1 since the newer
versions of e-smith are Red Hat 7.0 glibc22 based. 
However, it is entirely possible that the version you
downloaded would work.  I took the more conservative
path of compiling it on a Red Hat 7.0 box so that it
was linked to the same lib version as e-smith 4.1.1. 
It's good to know that it worked.
