I installed compat-libstdc++-6.2-2.9.0.9.i386.rpm and
htdig-3.1.5-0glibc21.i386.rpm. I think I got the compat file from the RH
site, which resolved the glibc21 dependency problem.
IMHO an e-smith rpm would be an excellent idea. Good luck with that.

Which RPM did you use from the htdig site? I did not
try installing the glic21 RPM on 4.1.1 since the newer
versions of e-smith are Red Hat 7.0 glibc22 based.
However, it is entirely possible that the version you
downloaded would work. I took the more conservative
path of compiling it on a Red Hat 7.0 box so that it
was linked to the same lib version as e-smith 4.1.1.
It's good to know that it worked.
