Graeme,

I believe that's all due to the current default settings for guest user
handling in smb.conf.
I don't like it all when you want to act the Samba box as a PDC, so I always
change the following 2 parameters in smb.conf (in the template) to avoid all
that:

   guest ok = no
   map to guest = never

That's just my personal preference for that. Other opinions welcome.
