I'll tell you what would be cooler than the container scheme. Programmable HTML. HTPL, I guess.
So often have I wished I could include if-then statements in an HTML page. Prefetch is a good start. It'd be nice also to be able to fetch an image, but only show a certain area of the image. Then you combine all your small images into one, and just show the appropriate range of coordinates at each place in the HTML document. Something like ePerl for HTML, with input from the browser's environment. That would be nice, and would probably make the container issue moot.
