In 0.2 you can, simply connect to the node and type in messages. The best way is
writing:

HandshakeRequest
UniqueID=1234
HopsToLive=1
Depth=1
EndMessage

that should give you hand HandshakeReply with some information about the other
node.

The current cvs and 0.3 code starts with a DH exchange to set up a crypto, so
your going to have to be pretty damn good at head math to talk to those...
