This kind of comment is music to the ears of anyone trying to paint
us as left-wing anarchists, although more the way you phrase it than
what I assume to be the intent behind it. I actually quite like
capitalism, if done right, but I don't like it when it is propped up
by artificial government sanctions as is the case with the W.T.O,
copyright, and software patents (and where there are questions over
the value of such sanctions - as is the case with all of these).
The problem with trying to incorporate any form of payment mechanism
for information in Freenet (or any p2p system) is exactly the same as
trying to compel people to pay for information in any other arena -
namely that with advances in communication technology (of which
Freenet is a good example) it will become increasingly difficult to
prevent people from communicating, and communication is basically
what "piracy" amounts to - ("Communication: The exchange of thoughts,
messages, or information, as by speech, signals, writing, or
