Why not borrow from porn sites and present the user with a "flashing" "Take a tour NOW >>" banner? It will progressively walk the user through all the important features? Each feature will have a "Learn more >>" banner, leading to additional docs/tutorials/examples/whatever, as well as a "Next - check out XYZ >>" banner.
