I've found this. I didn't install either ConfirmEdit or reCAPTCHA; Ximin was 
admin'ing the wiki for a while but seems to have disappeared.

Downgrading to 5.2.X on a system which is just using the Ubuntu packaged 
version of MediaWiki does not strike me as a sustainable solution. Maybe 
there's a maintained backport?

In fact, I'm not sure I even have admin rights? I don't see anything about 
extensions anyway...
