But someone mentioned RSS capability also and the blogs today usually have RSS capability in them also, so that is why I suggested using a blog...

To that extent yes, but I guess in my mind using a blog application
just to have dated items that appear in reverse chronological order is
a bit of overkill. Plus we aren't going to have comments on the home
page (at least I don't see why we would) so it's really just a dated
list of items, which to me doesn't really make it a blog per se. I
completely understand about not wanting to reinvent the wheel, but the
functionality we should need for the home page should be simple enough
to build (and the announcement piece at least as far as it goes on the
current site is done) and won't carry any unnecessary baggage along
with it.
Philosophically I may be looking at this project a bit differently as
well. If this were a paying client and there was a tight deadline
then I'd be thinking compeltely differently about it. In this case
what I think we want to get out of it for everyone is not just a nice
end product, but the process is as important if not more important in
my mind than the end result. From that perspective I see potential
reinventing of the wheel (and they'll be small wheels in most cases)
as not necessarily a bad thing because people have the opportunity to
learn something in the process. If some of the people involved
haven't built something blog-like, messed with RSS feeds, etc. etc.
then this is a great opportunity to dig in.

Yep, that's a good place to start. I came up with a bit of a list in
a previous email that should serve as a good starting point.
