This is a little bit off-topic but GNOME & assorted _should_ compile
rather smoothly on Solaris7 having a decent amount of GNU stuff (ala gcc,
autoconf/automake, gettext) in place. AFAIR at the gnome homepage
there was a description on how to do it for arbitrary systems i.e. in
which order to build things and the dependencies between different
parts and the prerequisits. I think there was some minor hack to be
done in one lib but IFRC it was described how to get around it.

IMO it's a good homework to do before trying dia ;)
