for the rest of the web site, all use the same style sheets, the same
macro files, etc. And an ebook and pdf can all be generated from the same.

If, hypothetically, Ddoc was removed and replaced with something completely different, that doesn't mean you need to stop using it. You could even continue to ship it with DMD was a separate tool.
