I tried your patch on DFB 1.1.1 it applied and compiled.  I did not see 
significant improvement, in fact my blits slowed down by a factor of 2.  I 
tried this on our arm9 (davinci using /dev/fb1 at 1280x720x24 (RGB)).   The 
other platform was an mx31 at 800x480x16.  The mx31 is uinsg a newer 4.x 
toolchain and the davinci is and older 3.4 toolchain.

Both used the fbdev device.

Any thoughts why?
