Heh, if only it were that easy.  No, I need a wall clock that doesn't 
move so I have time to work on stuff.

Yeah, if we wanted to test the datestamp functions, we could override 
the relevant functionality (and probably do need to do that.)

In any case, the sun keeps moving, so I have a problem whether I'm 
trying to test time-related things on the computer or not :-)

So malloc calls a timeout and starts rummaging around the free chain,
sorting things out, and merging adjacent small free blocks into larger
blocks. This takes 3 1/2 days.
