hi Matthias,

www.mydomain.com offers free DNS hosting, and i've found it quite easy to
use and reliable now for over a year. i use them for exactly what you are
describing, when i register a name i want, but i haven't built any site on
it yet.

i just register the name with opensrs, setting the nameservers to ns1 -
ns4.mydomain.com, add the domain to my mydomain.com account (i have about 30
in there currently ...sigh) and set the IP address to the be the same as the
domain i want to park it on. mydomain.com also lets you forward all mail
for the domain to any address, using their mailservers for the forwarding,
so my (also pair.com) service doesn't need to know about the domain at all.

pretty nice for a free service. there is one hidden cost however, they send
you frequent "newletter" emails which are extremely spammy. and the only
way to "unsubscribe" from the newsletter is to cancel all of your your
mydomain.com account services! a little bit annoying, but a small price to
pay, actually.
