Isn't the real answer as follows:

If you want cheaper prices, then become ICANN-accredited and start your own
registry.  The $10 price point pays for all the overhead that Tucows incurs
including the enormously high salary they must pay Charles for the 24-hour
support he provides above and beyond his normal job responsibilities...

But seriously, i've looked for cheaper sources but my key criteria was that
the customers belong to me.  I sell, manage, support and market to the
customers instead of just passing them off through a coded link to another
site.  You won't find that anywhere else with one or two exceptions and
those exceptions are worth mentioning for lack of quality, stability and
timeliness of product introduction.  You simply won't find better than
Tucows and if you ever do decide to become accredited then you will see
where the $4 goes to... ;)

Don't tell me that you want $8 or $9 - then you wouldn't be able to compete
with Godaddy, anyway.
