But, if one sends a request to a mailing list, this usually initiates a thread of answers and answers to answers and answers to answers to answers... Mostly, the whole thread contains important feedback for the initial poster. So, if someone really wants feedback from a mailing list, he must subscribe or at least watch the archive.
