I use Wordpress & Facebook groups. I live between the ideal and the real.
I tired to use only floss software and sites as an activist early on and
found that the people that joined in were almost always already on my side
of the ethical debate. My message was only heard in an echo chamber. With
the latest Northwest based open access and rights group I am working with
we have chosen to go to the people we want to connect with and meet them in
thier digital town squares instead of forcing them to come to us. When
dealing with Free Culture issues of Privacy, Copyright, Open licensing and
free speech, we need to reach out to more people and not hide in caves of
idealism where no one will hear our message. We can use tools and
criticize for their faults while also praising the positives.
