I feel that way too, Joshua. But I also see it as an opportunity, because
if the people in my spaces never vigorously questioned my assumptions about
the appropriateness of different tools and spaces, that would be a sign of
stagnation, not of progress.

Please please don't feel defeated. The fact that we have heterogeneity in
this group is a strength, not a weakness. I think if we did a show of hands
and counted who was really committed to making free software and network
services a priority, you would find we have a strong base from that camp
here.

At the Free Culture meetup in NY, one of the top questions asked during our
panel conversations was "why are we using nonfree software to conduct this
panel?" -- and indeed, we were using a non-free OS, non-free Office, and
non-free web services to conduct the panel, which are areas we could
probably improve in in the future.

But people in our group were curious about it, and they noticed it. That's
a sure sign of progress, and for those of us who feel strongly that's the
way forward for our movement, it's on us to continue convincing our
compatriots and colleagues of the worth of our viewpoint.
