Hi Rich, I'll add my "+1" to the OmniOS recommendations; And, regarding ZFS-on-Linux, when I tried it this summer (June/July), I was unable to import a pool that had been created on OpenIndiana (oi151a7 or so).
I've also just started trying out XStreamOS Desktop, their beta3 release. It's pretty young yet, but works OK so far, and they do seem to be actively working on it. But OmniOS has been my favorite for awhile. It's pretty much all servers here. I should have mentioned that GUI is not a requirement, although the ability to have a least a console login on the err, console of the Ultra 20 in the event the network becomes a notwork for some reason. Apart from the core OS, the server software I intend to use are the latest versions of Bind, Sendmail, Dovecot, and *possibly* ISC dhcpd. Provided I can compile and/or get pre-built packages for those, I'll be happy!
