This does beg the question, why does zpool lie about things?

does your pool contains filesystems with compression enabled?
I guess this can make difference (zpool probably doesn't take it into
account).
I also see difference on my /hispter system:
$ zpool list
NAME SIZE ALLOC FREE EXPANDSZ FRAG CAP DEDUP HEALTH ALTROOT
pz500 464G 290G 174G - 54% 62% 1.00x ONLINE -
rpool 148G 59.0G 89.0G - 38% 39% 1.00x ONLINE -
$ zfs list -o
compression,compressratio,used,avail,refer,canmount,mountpoint,name
pz500 rpool
COMPRESS RATIO USED AVAIL REFER CANMOUNT MOUNTPOINT NAME
lz4 1.12x 327G 122G 86K on /pz500 pz500
off 1.47x 59.1G 84.3G 39.5K on /rpool rpool
It is just guessing (both pools have some zfs compressed).
