Having just been to a Richard M Stallman lecture, I think I'd like to
know the following:
How "Free" in the FSF sense is Illumos/OpenIndiana?
Is everything under strict Gnu GPL?
I e does everything satisfy the four freedoms including inheriting the
GPL to derivative works, as defined by FSF?

Is what comprises "Illumos". To be fair, "Illumos" also contains
OS/Net man
pages now too (where it didn't inside Sun).
Ok, so basically 'the core operatingsystem'?
Yes, that sounds about right.
As of this moment, there are two installable entities (Linux folks
might call
them distros) of Illumos:
So they are Illumos ('the core') plus the rest of the userland then
(in different
flavors/usage targets).. ?
Yes... Illumos + other-bits. OpenIndiana, for example, brings in GNOME and
has all sorts of other things available via IPS.
Is this enough to clear some of the confusion? Or am I adding to
it. And if
I got anything wrong here, please chime in.
If my tripplecheck above is correct, then it's crystal clear. If not, then
yes, you added to it :D
You pretty much have the gist of it. Glad to help.
