Of course, we know the limitations from Svr4 packaging, but this makes it easy
to also realize that there are many unneeded and new limitations with IPS.

Well, IPS (lately) introduced scripting but not as flexible as the scripting in
Svr4 packages. On the other side, this special kind of scripting could be used
as a useful extension to SVr4 scripting, where you need to run scripts after
the next reboot and not before.

I am strongly against using scripting with version dependent behavior.

Sun did not want to have a smooth migration path which is of course an
important reason why IPS did fail.

Thanks to the pkgserv program fom Casper Dik, we have a fast Svr4 package
installation since a few weeks before Sun removed Svr4 packaging.

Thanks to the fact that Sun listed to my requests and added http:// and https://
based intrinsinc install into pkgadd, we can use Svr4 packging over the network
in a transparent way. The work I added in spring 2011 allows us to load/install
compressed Svr4 packages over the network directly.
