With ZFS, you are now living in a post-hardware RAID world. Hardware RAID 
ceases to be a consideration in its entirety. If you require a RAID-6 level of 
data assurance, the equivalent is to design and make your zpools using the 
raidz2 format.

Any SATA controller which adheres to the AHCI specification, which the vast 
majority do. You can still run SATA drives of a SAS controller, however. In 
that case, I it would be good to know how many drives you're talking about and 
any other details, such as whether you require any enclosure management.
