I've been running RAIDZ2 on one system and RAIDZ1 on another for quite a while. These are all small systems. The new system would have 5 disks. I've had bad experience with SATA cards not being usable with Solaris 10 which motivated my question. On the Z400 (which all of these are) I have to use the IDE emulation to use the onboard SATA ports.
I've been swapping hard drives using caddies for some 20 years, but that's become inconvenient now that I find myself using Windows for CAD and EDA as well as test equipment interfaces. So I'm working on switching to VirtualBox. Plan A is to use Hipster or other Illumos based OS as the host. Plan B is some sort of HW RAID6 and Windows 7 Pro. I'm leery of that because it makes everything else dependent upon something I don't trust and actively dislike. ------------------------------------------ illumos-discuss Archives: https://illumos.topicbox.com/groups/discuss/discussions/T6b883031c8422d06-Mfa7be9d0c32b2614d8edeb91 Powered by Topicbox: https://topicbox.com
