You don't need 4GB of memory to use ZFS. It runs on 1GB just perfectly -
most of the systems I use
to test and deploy Tribblix are 1GB cloud instances (EC2 or Digital Ocean)
or bhyve instances. It will
run on less, although the installer won't install to ZFS on a 512M system
(because the installer is a
ramdisk that takes about 256M of memory and there isn't enough left over).
