The thing is, this is an open source community with limited resources.
Stephan was just trying to help by suggesting something that does work
for them.  Stephan also correctly pointed out that unless a person who
wants support for modern GPUs works on the DRM/KMS port, then modern
GPUs are not going to work.

That person could be you.  You could start right now!  Casting shade
on the motives of other community members is unlikely to convince them
to do it for you, though.
