Thanks, Dan.

I should be clear: didn't intend my note as a criticism of the conference
program. It could hardly have been better. I appreciated the way it took a
huge set of possible topics and brought focus to things we all care about.
'Twas yummy.

I was reacting more to the flow of conversations both at the conference and
here on the board. It struck me that most of the conversations had to do
with information, interface, and organizational issues, and it had been a
while since I had encountered a conversation of the form, "Hey, my people
are trying to do X," or "Hey, my people are dealing with this slice of life,
let's talk about how best to help them."

And yes, we've already kicked around a couple of ideas for talks that might
bring this sort of thing forward.

Cheers,
Marc

conversation

[stuff omitted]

Does that mean we ignored users? I don't think so. Carl DiSalvo's talk
was all about community empowerment. Gabe White's was on the effect
our work has on users. Doug Bolin's about making help more effective
for users. Could we have done more to focus on users and figure out
ways to involve them in our work? Sure, and I hope people will submit
talks next year that do just that.

Dan
