Yes, unless the people doing the hiring have confused interaction design with visual design.
However, you will probably be better off (and more marketable) if you know about visual design, but I see it as more akin to having understanding something about programming (or whatever medium you're designing for.) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
