Thanks for the tip! PDF reading is great in iBooks on the iPad -- city planning maps and plats are super-easy to carry around this way. If you're into it, the History Channel's Civil War app is awesome (plotting daily news 150 years ago from now til 2015 with maps, articles and pictures).
