I agree with, and use, all of the apps recommended. In addition to those, I use: * Desktop Connect for RDP access to servers. * iBooks, GoodReader, and Kindle for reading. I do a fair bit of reading during my commute. Between O'Reilly, InformIT, APress, and Pragmatic Bookshelf having books available in PDF and ePub, I've stopped buying real books except to have to lend out to co-workers or friends. I originally got GoodReader for PDF support (since I got my iPad before iBooks had PDF support). I keep it since its rendering engine behaves better on some files. I also have this irrational desire to keep my collection in iBooks "clean" while I have no issue having files with random names in GoodReader. I use the Kindle app only for those books that I can only get from Amazon. * NetTools to ping and traceroute sites. Since I have a 3G iPad, I can use it for testing to compare against whatever network I'm looking at. * Safari for viewing status monitors. We don't have wireless access points in the data centers or in the office but, given the 3G connection, I can still access the monitors. This makes it easy to track if anything unrelated has gone down or if whatever I finished working on has come back up successfully. (My Blackberry doesn't work so well in the data center so sometimes I don't get pages. The iPad works just fine though.) * OmniFocus for task management. It's not cheap but it's the best tool I found for my work flow. * Draft for quick sketching. * OmniGraffle for not-so-quick diagrams. I'm still trying to learn how to properly use it though. * TimeMaster + Billing for time tracking. I don't use the billing portion of it but I'm curious about how I use my time and I'm required to track hours for certain work. I'm still looking for a good solution for taking and organizing notes. I've used Evernote, PaperDesk, and Trunk Notes for it so far but haven't found one that really makes me happy. I keep going back to using my paper notebook but I wish I wouldn't since that I never seem to get around to typing up anything I write in that notebook. --CAE _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
