I've been sharpening my pitchfork all morning, preparing for the
coming uprising.

Who's got a good source for Internet-fueled Torches?

:)

More seriously - I'm sorry to see people turning the corner where they
feel that the best alternative that they have is to simply stop
communicating. It's clear that there are definitely chilling effects
being caused by the PRISM program and the Snowden revelations; I
don't like the path that our government here in the US seems to have
decided to go down.

I have it baked into my personal philosophy that a free and open
internet, and free and open democratic communication, are vital to the
preservation of our civic structure and the sort of society that I
want to live in. This is effectively a first amendment issue - we're
NOT free to speak as we wish, because the ramifications are unknown
and mysterious, and one kangaroo court or another can pick you up and
punish you at any time - in secret, without you being able to disclose
that you're being pushed into taking actions that are against your
will. Because, again, that's just one more thing that you can be
punished for.

Folks claim that they have "nothing to hide" - I think everyone's got
a right not to *think* that they have to have something (worth hiding)
in order to need to hide.

best,
